11 Apr will be remembered as black day in Sikkim: SKM

Gangtok, 12 Apr:

Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has strongly criticized the disposal of seized non-organic vegetables on 11 Apr. The future generation of the State will remember the day as black day in the history of Sikkim, the party has said.

In a press release, SKM has said that instead of burying the seized vegetables, it could be donated to orphanages, old age homes, monasteries, temples or schools. Disposing these vegetables in this manner is a violation of nature and plant kingdom, the party has said.

Further, the party has alleged that the establishment of industries in the State has reduced the production of organic vegetables by 60% and added that even farmers are not very interested in organic farming because of which the State cannot produce the required amount of vegetables.
