GPU level training on Organic Certification at Namli

Gangtok, 13 Apr:

International Panaacea Limited, a Service Provider Agency under Sikkim Organic Mission, Government of Sikkim, organised a Gram Panchayat Unit level programme on Internal Control Systems [ICS] for Organic Certification and organic vegetable production on 12 Apr at Namli in East Pendam, a press release informs.

Agriculture Inspector, Meena Sharma informed about the different types of schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. She also emphasized on Mission Organic Value Chain Development [MOVCD] and Crop Insurance for the farmers’ community. She further explained about soil health and soil test.

Zilla Panchayat, Banita Rai highlighted about production of vegetables and other crops in both summer and winter season. She further talked about the present market value of leafy and leguminous vegetables and educated farmers on crop rotation, land and manure preparation and organic seeds and seed treatment for different crops.

IPL block in-charge, Pushpa Lal Dahal mentioned about the standard of Organic Certification and mandates for ICS such as Aadhaar Card Number and Bank Account of each farmer to be recorded in the documentation. He also briefed the gathering about National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and National Organic Program (NOP).

The programme was coordinated by office executive of International Panaacea Limited, Sangay Dem Bhutia and was attended by departmental officials [Horticulture and Agriculture Department], farmers from Namli, IPL members, Zilla Panchayat members and public, reads the release.
