A daylong Gram Panchayat Unit level programme on organic farming was conducted by International Panaacea Limited in association with Sikkim Organic Mission, Government of Sikkim, on 14 Apr at Navey Sotak Gram Prashasan Kendra, East Sikkim, a press release informs.
Panchayat President, Horticulture Inspector, Village Level Worker, IPL officials along with farmers participated in the programme.
Horticulture Inspector, Kabita Basnet, briefed the gathering about the importance of organic farming and organically grown vegetables.
VLW Pema Lhamu Bhutia spoke about different schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. She also emphasized on Mission Organic Value Chain Development [MOVCD] and Crop Insurance for the farmers’ community.
IPL Block in-charge, Tashi Bhutia, explained Organic Certification and mandates for ICS such as Aadhaar Card Number and Bank Account of each farmer to be recorded in the documentation.
He also briefed the gathering about National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and National Organic Program (NOP).
A similar GPU level programme was held at Rawtey Rumtek, East Sikkim on 13 Apr.
