IOCL gears up for Ujjwala Diwas to make Sikkim kitchens ‘smoke-free’

Indian Oil Company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) has announced plans to celebrate Ujjwala Diwas on 20 April as part of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.

An IOCL team led by General Manager (LPG) IOCL, Abhijit Dey, Siliguri Area Officer IOCL Chandhan Pain, Assistant Manager (LPG Sales) Shiv Kumar Singh and Managing Director Nuyama Indane, Sirish Khare had interacted with the media persons on 13 Apr to share their plans for the Diwas.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Dey informed that IOCL will be holding camps in different villages to generate awareness about Ujjwala Diwas.

The key activities will include organization of LPG Panchayats, distribution of new connections, explaining the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and collection of KYC forms.

He explained that LPG Panchayat is a community-meeting which will serve as a platform for LPG consumer to interact with each other, promote mutual learning and sharing their experiences.

He further informed that this Day will also be celebrated in different parts of Sikkim to promote safe and sustained use of LPG through peer group interactions on a larger scale.

Safety instruction and insurance cards will also be distributed.

He informed that Sikkim has 101 villages and organizing Ujjwala Diwas under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from 14 Apr to 05 May, Indane distributors are going to ensure that each and every household is provided with an LPG connection and Sikkim be made smokeless.

In East District Ujjwala Diwas will be observed at Gangtok, Tathangchen, Syari, Kamarey, Bhasmey and Lumsey and for South District, Nayuma Indane will organize Ujjawala Diwas at Jawbari while STCS will organize events at Jorethang.
