Sikkim selected for six National Awards in Panchayati Raj

Gangtok, 18 Apr:

Sikkim’s Rural Management & Development Department has been named for six National Awards for excellence in Panchayati Raj which will be officially conferred on it later this month.

The State has won three Deen Dayal Upadhayay Panchayat Sashaktiran Puraskar, one e-Puraskar, Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar and Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award, bringing the total tally of National Awards to five.

One of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar will be conferred to South District Zilla Panchayat while the other two Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar will be conferred to Martam Gram Panchayat Unit, West Sikkim and Namphing Gram Panchayat, South Sikkim respectively.

Sikkim managed to secure the first position among first-category States for excellence in implementation of e-Panchayat initiatives.

Sikkim also bagged one of the three National Awards for effective implementation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan in the very first year of the institution of such an Award by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, informs the release.

Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award will be conferred to Maniram Phalidara Gram Panchayat, South Sikkim.

The awards will be handed over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of National Panchayat Raj Day on 24 Apr at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
