Timburbong Secondary School celebrates Platinum Jubilee


Gangtok, 20 Apr:

Timburbong Secondary School in West Sikkim kicked off its three-day Platinum Jubilee celebration on 19 Apr with Minister for Human Resource Development Department, RB Subba as the chief guest, a press release informs.

Timburbong School was established in 1942 and was affiliated and approved by the State Government as a Government Primary School in 1955.

Addressing the programme, Mr Subba congratulated the school fraternity and the gathered students for completing 75+ years and educating young minds of the area. He assured the School Management Committee of constructing a good playground at the school premises.

“The school has produced many successful officers, doctors, engineers, teachers, politicians, authors, artists, sportspersons and achievers,” Mr Subba said.

The Minister said that the state government has always worked towards providing better education opportunities for children of the State.

“The government has appointed able teachers, principals and headmasters for promoting quality education,” Mr Subba added.

He further announced that a National university is on the verge of its establishment in Sikkim, the bill for which has already been passed in the cabinet.

“In order to enhance life oriented education the school and the society must inculcate in students the qualities of optimism, creativity and innovation,” said the HRDD Minister.

He also urged the students to take studies seriously and be clear about what they want to do with their lives.

“Sikkim has always been an example to other States in imparting quality education,” he proclaimed.

The school also honored its ex-headmasters and headmistresses along with ex staff members with mementos and gifts for their contributions and services to the school.

A primary level quiz competition among different schools of the area was also conducted during the programme.

Thongling School, Karthok School, Timburbong School and Lower Timburbong School participated in the quiz competition.

Furthermore, a debate competition was also held in which Green Valley Academy came in first beating Chakung Senior Secondary School.

The opening day of the Platinum Jubilee celebration wrapped up with prize distribution ceremony by the chief guest.
