NEW DELHI, 25 Apr:
A new regional political party of Sikkim will be announced at a press conference at Press Club of India, New Delhi on 26 April. The name of the new party and plans for Sikkim would be announced by the party’s founding members including former international footballer, Bhaichung Bhutia.
“I will be live from Press Club of India on Thursday to announce our plans for Sikkim. It is also an outreach to national media to tell them that the beautiful State of Sikkim is ready for change. So please join me at 3 p.m. tomorrow as we engage the nation’s capital, New Delhi," said Bhaichung in a press statement.
Sources close to those who are in the party expressed that only the name and some plans of the party would be unveiled in the media conference at New Delhi on Thursday.
The party will be launched in Sikkim by May where the names of the party post holders and executive committee members would be announced, said the group [those who are accompanying Bhaichung to Delhi]
On why the party’s name is being announced at Delhi and not Sikkim, sources said the certain issues of the State need to be put across to the Centre through the press conference with national media at Delhi.
It was also said by the group that Bhaichung Bhutia is one of the founding members of the new political party. There has been talk in Sikkim that Bhaichung would be starting a new party. However, Bhaichung Bhutia is a founding senior member along with other founding members and it should not be seen as only Bhaichung Bhutia’s party, said the group.
