DC West announces Rs 50,000 for first Drugs Free GPU and Alcohol Free GPU

A coordination meeting cum workshop with Zilla Adhyaksha, Upa-Adhyaksha, District Collector, Zilla Panchayats and Panchayat Presidents of West district on Tuberculosis elimination, Comprehensive Annual and Total Check-up for Healthy Sikkim [CATCH], Human Papillomavirus [HPV] Vaccines, NITI Aayog, Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committee [VHSNC] and functioning of PHCs was organised by District Health Society, Gyalshing at the conference hall of West District Zilla Panchayat in Kyongsa, West Sikkim today.
The meeting commenced under the chairmanship of Zilla Adhyaksha, West, Devika Subba.
Addressing the gathering, Ms Subba stressed on the elimination of TB in the State by 2022. She informed that the Health Department of West has been constantly working on it and has achieved impressive results till date. She urged Zilla members, Gram Panchayats and the local gentry to support and contribute towards the mission.
“The policies and schemes of the state government are considered as one of the best in the country but we functionaries are lacking in their implementation. I request all to contribute, participate and coordinate for eliminating TB from the State,” said Ms Subba.
District Collector, AB Karki, in his address, assured to provide every possible help from the administration. He informed that the state government has proposed prize amount of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for the first TB Free Zilla Territorial Constituency and Gram Panchayat Unit respectively. He urged for smart and collaborative work to be successful in the mission.
In addition, in order to boost their morale, the DC announced cash prizes of Rs 50,000 for the first Drugs Free GPU and Alcohol Free GPU.
He suggested that all Panchayats prepare a power point presentation of their respective GPUs.
“No Objection Certificates from the concerned Panchayat is mandatory for all governmental construction in the GPUs for monitoring and effective results. Migrant labour should have work permits from the concerned Panchayat to work under GPUs along with their identity proof which will give us the information of every migrant labour in the district easily,” he added.
Under his guidance, the house took the pledge to eliminate TB by 2022.
The meeting also had the attendance of Upa-Adhyaksha, Ashok Pradhan, Chief Medical Officer [West], Dr Thinlay Wongyal, District Project Officer [Zilla], Saran Pradhan, DRCHO [West], Dr Tsheten Namgyal, and DTO [West], Bikash Pradhan.
