Two women entrepreneurs from Sikkim, Smita Rai and Chimi Ongmu Bhutia received the Vasundhara NE Women Entrepreneur of the year award for 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively at an award function held at New Delhi on 26 Apr.
The Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year award is considered a benchmark for women entrepreneurs in Northeast India who have reached quantifiable levels of success and excellence by hard work and perseverance.
Smita Rai was selected for the year 2015-16 and Chimi Ongmu Bhutia for 2016-17.
The award was presented to them by Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jitendra Singh.
The two Sikkimese women entrepreneurs made it to the list of 17 women entrepreneurs to win the Vasundhara NE Women Entrepreneur of the year award this year.
The award was presented to 17 women entrepreneurs of Northeast India.
Smita Rai hails from Namchi, South Sikkim and is the founder of ‘Namchi Designer Candles’. Ms Rai currently has more than 20 women engaged in the venture.
Chimi Ongmu Bhutia is from Gangtok and is a handcraft artisan-entrepreneur.
Both of them have participated in various State and National level exhibitions.
