Namchi, 28 Apr:
Fourteen milch cows within 1st to 2nd lactation age group along with calves were distributed at Kitchudumra cluster of Mamley-Kamrang GPU under Poklok Kamrang constituency in South Sikkim today.
A press release received from the office of Animal Husbandry Department, South district informs that the programme has been sponsored under the second phase of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana [RKVY 2017-18] with considerable share from the State capital.
The programme is in line with Sikkim Organic Mission and the main focus is on the overall economic elevation of farmers through enhanced milk production level thereby transforming Sikkim into a milk-surplus State.
Attending the distribution programme were Zilla Panchayat, Rabin Rai, accompanied by area Panchayat, former Panchayat members, farmers cell, officer from Sikkim Milk Union, Karfectar and a host of officers from the concerned department led by Joint Director/South, Dr T Bajgai.
The milch cows are included with three years insurance coverage and the selected beneficiaries have been provided with packs of mineral vitamins, dewormer & anti-stress tonic.
Additionally, the beneficiaries were also made aware of modern management practices focusing on balanced diet, breeding, health coverage, insurance for enhanced production.
