A review meeting regarding NITI Aayog’s initiative of transforming “aspirational district” was chaired by Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, Upma Srivastava, at Mount Pandim Hotel in Pelling, West Sikkim on 01 May.
It may be mentioned here, West district is among the 115 “aspirational districts” of the country identified by the NITI Aayog for time bound transformation within 2022. The plan covers 5 sectors viz Health & Nutrition, Education, Agriculture & Allied Areas, Basic Infrastructure, Skill Development & Financial inclusion. The district has come up with various indicators prevalent in these sectors as of today and what the district wants to achieve by 2022 through various technological, administrative, financial & infrastructural interventions.
Sub Divisional Magistrate, Tushar K Gajanan, gave a presentation on district plan for transforming West Sikkim.
District Collector, AB Karki, urged the Heads of Departments to take ownership and personal involvement so that the initiative is successfully implemented.
Additional Secretary, Ms Srivastava, asked the HODs present to pool in efforts and requested the DC to work collectively to quicken the pace of activities at district level and help the district achieve the targets well within set target time.
“The ranking of the district changes every day and to meet the target, concerned officers need to review progress on regular basis at departmental level and ensure submission of reports to the district administration timely,” she added.
In a series of visits in Gyalshing, Ms Srivastava visited the District Hospital, ICDS centre at Upper Kyongsa, Tikjek Primary School and Lingchom Primary Health Sub Centre.
