Nima and Ong Tshering help India Bank win Chennai FA senior division tournament

Gangtok, 02 May:

Two footballers from Gangtok, Nima Rongkup and Ong Tshering Lepcha, have helped the India Bank team win the Chennai Football Association [CFA] Senior Division 2018 tournament held at Nehru Stadium there recently.

Nima, who plays as a striker and scored a goal in the tournament, shares that the tournament was a great learning experience for him and helped him understand the game better.

“It was my first time playing in a big tournament. I was nervous at first but to be able to represent my State in the team and on top of that win the whole thing was pretty awesome,” he said while speaking to SummitTimes.

Chennai Football Association [CFA] Senior Division 2018 tournament was played over 45 days and was participated in by 12 teams, two of which are I-League regulars.

Nima hails from Kongri, West Sikkim, and used to earlier play for Gangtok Himalayan FC. The 24-year-old considers Sunil Chettri, Bikash Jairu and Nirmal Chettri as inspirations.

At present, Nima is in Kolkata trying for the Kolkata League which is scheduled to kick off in July.

Ong Tshering Lepcha had also played for Gangtok Himalayan FC.
