Thupden Kunga Bhutia Memorial TT tourney wraps up

Closing ceremony of the 05th Thupden Kunga Bhutia Memorial East District Inter School and Open Table Tennis Tournament 2018 was held at White Hall complex today. More than 80 paddlers from East District had participated in 16 different categories of the tournament. The three-day long tournament was organised by Sikkim Table Tennis Academy [STTA], Tadong.

The closing ceremony of the tournament had Sadar Thana Station Head Officer, Bikash Tiwari as the chief guest accompanied by STTA directors, BB Subba and CL Sharma as guests of honour.

Richard Lepcha defeated B Kaushik in the finals of cadet boys’, while in cadet girls’ final Sneha Pradhan beat Tanuja Dong.

In sub-junior boys’, Aswin Gurung emerged as winner by defeating Dewakar Rai, while Tanija Dong defeated Lakit Lepcha in sub-junior girls’ final.

Passang Tamang defeated Abel Lepcha in junior boys’ final and Tenzing Dolma Sherpa beat Tanija Dong in junior girls’ final.

In junior boys’ doubles, Passang Tamang and Abel Lepcha defeated the team of Diwakar Rai and Aswin Gurung, while Tenzing Doma and Diya Trikhatri beat Lakit Lepcha and Tanija Dong in junior girls’ doubles final.

In open men’s final, Silvanus Sherpa beats Ctittiz Rai and Mandira Gurung defeated Neha Lama in open women’s final.

Silvanus Sherpa and Ayush Agarwal beat Sailesh Sundas and BB Subba in open men’s doubles, while in open women’s doubles, Neha Lama and Sashi Dong defeated Diya Trikhatri and Tenzing Dolma.

Silvanus Sherpa beat Dhurba Rai in employee men’s single and in employee women’s single, Mandira Gurung defeated Neha Lama.

In employee men’s doubles, Anup Gurung and Silvanus Sherpa defeated Gyamtso Bhutia and BB Subba, while Neha Lama and Mandira Gurung defeated PJ Lama and Sashi Dong in employee women’s doubles.

The tournament is the annual event of Sikkim Table Tennis Academy [STTA], Tadong to provide platform mainly to young upcoming paddlers. The academy has also been providing regular coaching to young players under expert coaches.
