Chamling’s major asset is his strong bond with Sikkimese people, says senior journalists
Gangtok, 08 May:
“Everyone feared raising their voice against the then government of Sikkim SangramParishad and its leader but it was the need of the hour. One fearless leader showed courage and raised a voice for democracy. That was our present Chief Minister PawanChamling which made him a great and successful leader,” said senior journalist, Joseph Lepcha, in Nayuma Television’s special talk show, Gyantalk.
The talk show was held to discuss and trace the journey of MrChamling as the longest serving Chief Minister of India who carved his name on record on 29 Aprilthis year, beating the record of former Chief Minister of West Bengal, JyotiBasu.
Accompanying MrLepcha on the special panel discussion were Editor, Sikkim Express, AmitPatro, and Senior Journalist cum Associate Editor of Nayuma News, KK Chettri. The hour-long discussion was hosted by anchor JiwanRai.
The panel discussed on the long journey of MrChamling while remembering the challenges faced by him and the start of his democratic movement.
“If the short six-monthlong government under the leadership of Sancha Man Limboowould not have been formed, Sikkim Democratic Front under the leadership of MrChamling would have swiped all 32 seats in the Assembly Polls then. The six months’ time duringMrLimboo’s Government created way for sympathy gain from the people for Sangram leader, NBBhandari, who then managed to win some seats,” said SE Editor, MrPatro.
MrPatro added that for him, the major achievements of the State under MrChamling are inclusion of Sikkim in the NorthEast Council, creation of Sikkim as a brand in tourism sector, the State’s cleanliness and the Organic Mission.
Senior Journalist cum Associate Editor of Nayuma News, MrChettri, said that the scenario in the State was different during Sikkim SangramParishad’s Government.
“People feared to criticize even the wrong things. The first two term of the previous government went well but the third term saw major drawbacks.Under the SDF Government, everyone has the right to express which is a positive sign of growth and success of a democracy. MrBhandari was a good leader but he lacked things needed to make a democracy successful,” he added.
Senior journalist, MrLepcha, who is also the president of Press Club of Sikkim, added, “Connecting with the common people is very important. MrChamling developed a strong connection with the public and that became his major asset. He is a leader who is more sensitive towards people and their issues. This was absent during the previous government and thus made MrChamlingpopular amongst the common people.”
The panel also discussed major achievements of the State that have been accomplished under the leadership of MrChamling.
The three journalists marked the achievement of MrChamling of being the longest serving CM of the country as historic.
It is informed that the talk show will be telecasted on Nayuma Television later this month.
