District Mental Health Cell conducts wellness campaign in 23 schools of East Sikkim

District Mental Health Cell, Department of Healthcare, Human Service and Family Welfare is conducting ‘Winning Ways to Well Being’ campaign in 23 schools in East District from 15 Apr to 10 May, a press release from District Nodal Officer for District Mental Health Program, National Tobacco Control Program and Opioid Substitution Therapy, Dr Satish Rasaily informs.
Dr Satish Rasaily along with Dr Kuljan Lama, psychologist counselors, Sonam Tongden, Archana Sharma, Pinkey Bhutia, Mamta Sharma, Nagandra Karki, and Udai Gurung so far have conducted the wellness campaign at 23 schools in Gangtok, Singtam and Rangpo.
“Winning Ways to Well Being’ campaign is a unique initiative to promote adolescent health and wellbeing targeting children between 10-19 years of age with the objective to educate students on the concept of brain programming in realizing one’s dreams and ambitions, sensitize teachers/ students to prioritize social and emotional intelligence, promote life skills education to infuse self-confidence, self esteem, positive thinking, goal settings, self-motivation, leadership skills, assertiveness skills, negotiating skills and failure management, encourage healthy lifestyles habits and positive coping skills to manage stresses and failures, educate on risk taking behavior and its consequences (school drop-out, early sexual experiences, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, substance misuse, and promote prevention of tobacco, alcohol and substance misuse by providing relevant information on harmful effects of drugs abuse,” the release reads.
Singtam District Hospital has conducted more than 200 WWWB programmes in schools of East Sikkim between 2015-2018, the release informs.
