Gangtok, 10 May:
A team of Traffic Police from Gangtok today conducted speed check along NH 10 between Ranipool and 32 Mile in East Sikkim wherein seven vehicles were challaned for over speeding.
It is informed that the Traffic Police team has installed a device that instantly detects vehicles that are travelling at a speed of 40 KM and above along the highway.
The permissible speed limit on the highway is 40 KM while it is 10 km in bazaar areas.
“We had received many complaints of vehicles travelling at high speeds along the highway between Ranipool and Gangtok and hence we conducted the drive today. We will conduct regular such drive in coming days,” said one of the Traffic Police.
It was also informed that the road leading downwards from Dukhit Pan Dokan to Kazi Road in Gangtok has been made one-way since yesterday. Only vehicles moving up towards Dukhit Pan Dokan are allowed to move. Down-ward vehicles are not allowed from 8 am to 7 pm. This has been done to ease congestion of traffic and also to give more space for pedestrian to walk, added the Traffic Police.
