Gangtok, 11 May:

A team of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party led by general secretary, Labour Front, Prem Goorung, and vice-president in-charge [Zone I], Anand Lama, vice-president [HQ & ADM], Uttam Lepcha, youth convener, East, Sabin Subba, along with party executives visited North East Pharma Packaging’ at Pacheykhani in East Sikkim to enquire about an incident wherein one worker was terminated without any reason. It is further alleged that the action was taken as per the direction of Sikkim Democratic Front MLA, an SKM press release informs.

The release adds that the SKM team put its argument with management of Pharma Company and gave strict warning to avoid repeating such misconduct against local labourers. The team also put forward its demand for re-employment of the victim labour within three days, failure of which will lead strong protest and action against the Pharma management.

“It is much disappointing to see that SDF at one side collects a huge amount of donations from Pharma companies compromising labour dignity and their basic rights. It is also highly unfortunate to witness that the management of these companies work under direct political influence of area MLA where vindictive behavior is practiced as per direction of SDF party. This shows that SDF is totally against the working class as well acts as savior of Labour Contractors, who are taking share of wages from labours in form of Labour Contract System,” the party has alleged in the release.
