Aggrieved Assistant Professors working on adhoc basis at different government colleges of Sikkim have finally called off their dharnatodayafter receiving positive assurance on the regularization of adhoc Assistant Lecturers of five years and above.
To protest the recent examination process and results of Assistant Professors conducted by Sikkim Public Service Commission, these Assistant Professor hadstarted an indefinite dharna infront of the District Administration Centre [East] from 04 May with today being the ninth day of the dharna.
Addressing a press conference here today, they informed that the Chief Minister held a special meeting with Human Resource Development Department and SPSC on their issue on 11 May.
“Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of HRDD, GP Upadhyaya,has informed us that the CM has taken a very positive decision in our favour and has urged us to call off our dharna. So following the positive assurance, we have called off the same from today,” he said.
It is informed that they have also submitted a memorandum on their issues to the Additional CS during a meeting held on 11 May.
While welcoming the decision of the CM, they mentioned that the benchmark of 5 years of service will cover around 60% of 28 adhoc Assistant Professors who are working and are qualified. They also thanked the CM and Additional CS for taking the decision in favour of them.
“We welcome the decision but we would like to further request the CM to consider those left-out candidates who are working and qualified but do not fall under 5 years of service benchmark by giving relaxation in roster system and years of service,” they urged.
They have also requested the government to give a memorandum to all 60% of the adhoc Assistant Professors together.
