Assam Association Sikkim celebrated Rongali Bihu for the first time today here at Smile Land near Ranipool to mark the beginning of Assamese New Year which falls during the second week of April every year.
Addressing the function, Area MLA Shyam Pradhan he appreciated Assam Association Sikkim and their efforts in bridging the gap between the two Northeastern States.
He called upon the members of Assam Association Sikkim to work together with their Sikkim counterparts and exchange cultural significance, diversity and ideas adding that this will help strengthen ties between Assam and Sikkim.
Assam Association Sikkim president, Manoj Upadhaya informing the gathering about the festival said that Rongali Bihu historically signifies the time of harvest and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy throughout the State of Assam.
He further said that Assam Association Sikkim was formed with a view to provide a platform to promote unity and cultural exchange between Assam and Sikkim.
