GANGTOK, 13 May: Sikkim Democratic Front party has strongly criticised and condemned the protest of SPCC president, Bharat Basnet which he made in his press statement regarding the proposal to increase the State Assembly seats from 32 to 40, which is presently under consideration of the Centre. The ruling party has asserted that SPCC president who has no people and mandate and has shown his halfwit and immature politics by this statement.
A SDF press release issued by its publicity secretary, Chudamani Mishra states that such statement has proved that Bharat Basnet is against Sikkimese communities and especially doing politics against Limboo and Tamang communities of Sikkim. The ruling party has suggested Mr Basnet to study various agreements and treaties of Sikkim, referendum of 1974, merger of Sikkim with India and the Article 371F of the constitution.
The release informed that on the basis of the Burman Commission recommendation, the State Government is working tirelessly to reserve 5 seats for Limboo and Tamang and also reserve seats for left out Nepali communities of Sikkim by providing the tribal status. On such situation when this sensitive issue is under the consideration of the Centre for discussion and deliberation, it is appropriate for Mr Basnet to show his halfwit by such anti-people and insensitive statement.
The ruling SDF party has reiterated to work more actively in the interest of people and their demands of seats reservation and tribal status.
