HBOS holds awareness programme on integrated schemes at Nokdara

Gangtok, 14 May:

Himalayan Bio Organic Society [HBOS] held an awareness programme at Nokdara inKalimpongdistrict on 12 May in the presence of Dr BB Gurung from Science Centre as chief guest andAssistant Project Coordinator from International Penaacea Limited, Gangtok, Pema T Tamang, as resource person, a press release informs.

Resource person MrTamang emphasized on integrated development projects at Nokdara valley through the HBOS comprising all income generating schemes to establish in the valley to strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.

“Nokdara Valley has full potential as the road connectivity and electricity is already completed,” he added.

He also informed to the participants that all Non-GovernmentalOrganisations, Self-help Groups, Community Based Organisations, Farmers Interest Groups, Clubs and Societies should come forward to work together for the development of the entire Nokdara valley and its surrounding.

“Public participation is most important for various development projects, we should not fully dependent on our local Government body but there are various schemes and projects under Central Government also which can be brought here through NGOs and other agencies,” said MrTamang.

President, HBOS,MahendraChhetri, briefed about the aims and objects of the society and its future activities. He emphasized about integrated schemes such as Organic farming and Organic Certification Process, Agriculture and Horticulture Training Centre in Nokdara Valley and its surrounding villages. He also mentioned about the pathetic condition of Large Cardamom due to disease and frost in the valley.

“Under the guidance of Block Development Officer [Block II],Algarahawe are going to start a Multipurpose Cooperative Society in the Nokdara Valley for the benefit of the entire public those who are residing Nokdara, Gitbeyong and GitDabling at the earliest,” he added.

Chief guest DrGurung, in his address, said, “There should be proper planning of infrastructure, beautification and unique design of huts and other allied matters. For instance, there are beautifully designed log houses at Lava and people like to see such houses and architecture. Historical places like Rampuri Dhaam hold religious sentimentsand are an important asset. To attract tourists,the beauty of the place has to be maintained.”

It may be mentioned here, HBOS is a registered NGO working in various fields in Kalimpongdistrict.
