Gangtok, 16 May:
Chairman of the National Commission for Safai Karmacharis, Government of India, Manhar Valjibhai Zala, called on Governor Shriniwas Patil at Raj Bhavan this afternoon. It was a courtesy call by Mr Zala, who is on a four-daylong visit to Sikkim. He was accompanied by Principal Private Secretary to the Chairman, Mahendra Prasad, a press communiqué received from Raj Bhavan informs.
During a brief interaction, Mr Zala praised Sikkim’s natural beauty, cleanliness and the working condition and facilities provided to Safai Karmacharis. He briefly apprised the Governor on the mandate of the Commission and its concern on the welfare of Safai Karmacharis across the country.
The Governor, while giving a brief insight over the history of Sikkim, also informed him about various innovative programmes initiated by the State Government that have helped improve the living condition of common people in the State over the last few decades.
