Shaheed Swabhimaan Yatra reaches Gangtok

Shaheed Swabhimaan Yatra organised by the Swabhimaan Desh Ka organisation, taken out with an aim to create awareness among people towards martyrs, reached Gangtok on 18 May and visited Nathula, Harbhajan Mandir and Tsomgo Lake today, a press release informs.

It may be mentioned here, the 90-day yatra was kicked off at India Gate in New Delhi on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Diwas on 23 Mar by the representative of Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat and Major General Ashok Narula.

It aims at not just creating awareness but also to move ahead with a purpose to compile data regarding former servicemen and martyrs at the national level and to request the Government to improve living conditions, status and employment opportunities for the family members of martyrs. The yatra will cover all 29 States of India before finally culminating in Delhi.

Organised under the leadership of Swabhimaan Desh Ka national president, Surender Singh Bidhuri, Shaheed Swabhiman Yatra has covered Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Ahemdabad, Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore, Dhule, Nashik, Mumbai, Pune, Khed, Goa, Banglore, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram, Puducherry, Chennai, Tirupati Balaji, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Raipur, Bhuvneshwar, Ranchi, Kolkata, Siliguri, Guwahati, Cherrapunji, Shillong and now Gangtok.

Mr Bidhuri said it is important for the youth to be aware about the sacrifices of martyrs so that they can understand the true value of independence. He urged the Government for a ‘Shaheed Swabhimaan Card’ through which all Government benefits such as education, health, employment, free travel facility, free housing facilities for the families and dependents of the martyred are ensured.
