South DLSA conducts legal services and awareness camp at Rateypani

District Legal Services Authority [South] and Taluk Legal Services Committee [South] in coordination with the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority organized a legal services and awareness camp at Rateypani in South Sikkim today, a press release from the office of District Legal Services Authority [South] informs.
The programme was conducted to spread awareness about welfare legislations and schemes and strengthen the community’s access to the schemes implemented by the Legal Services Authority and other departments of the Government.
The programme also aimed at identifying and connecting people to welfare schemes to ensure that people are benefitted from the welfare schemes. The programme also looked upon understanding legal needs of the people and addressing legal problems of the people by giving appropriate legal advice, read the release.
The programme was launched by DLSA [South] chairperson, Jyoti Kharka.
Information booths were setup by various departments like - Legal Aid Clinics by Panel Advocates and Para-Legal Volunteers, Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim (Welfare schemes) and Health Care, Human Services & Family Welfare Department (Health camp for differently-abled persons) for the attendees and participants.
Around 273 people attended the programme among which 181 benefitted from different schemes.
The attendees visited the booths and interacted with the officers and representative of the departments present to address their problems and to procure appropriate advice and guidance, informs the release.
A medical team comprising of doctors from Orthopedics, ENT [Ear, Nose and Throat], Eye and Psychiatry Departments conducted medical checkup of the attendees.
Further, documentaries on Lok Adalat, mediation and domestic violence were also shown to the attendees.
The programme was also attended by DLSA [South] secretary, Sonam Denka Wangdi, panel advocates, Block Development Officer [Namthang], staff members from Block Administrative Center [Namthang], officers from Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department, Health Care, Human Services & Family Welfare Department, doctors from Namchi District Hospital and Gyalshing District Hospital, officials of Namchi Police Station, Panchayat Members of Namthang-Rateypani Ward, Para-Legal volunteers of Namthang-Rateypani area and anganwadi workers.
