Riverfront cleanliness drive reaches Khelgaon
Gangtok, 23 May:
The eighth day of the ongoing riverfront cleanup drive being conducted by the Forest Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, reached Khelgaon premises where the participants and volunteers cleaned the jhoras and streams today, a press release informs.
The drive was participated in by students, faculty members and dean of ICFAI University, local panchayats and residents.
Monitoring official from the MoEF, AK Das, along with Deputy Secretary, MoEF, Additional Director and Divisional Forest Officer (River Valley Project) along with his team were also present during the cleanup drive coordinated by ENVIS, Sikkim.
An awareness rally was also conducted after the drive.
The cleanup drive today was held along the one kilometer stretch of the river bank at Khelgoan.
Dean, ICFAI University declared that the university will conduct regular riverfront cleanliness drive at Khelgaon premises.
Appreciating the initiative, the Ministry and Forest Department officials assured to fund the ICFAI University eco club under the National Green Corps eco club programme funded by the Government of India.
