09th day of riverfront cleanliness drive at Ban Jhakri Falls


Gangtok, 24 May:

On the ninth day of its 20-day riverfront cleanup drive focused along Rani Khola here, the Forest Department carried out a cleanup drive around Ban Jhakri Falls today, a press release informs.

The drive today was participated in by Ranka Senior Secondary School’s eco-club and National Service Scheme.

The event was coordinated by Divisional Forest Officer (River Valley Project) and his team with support from ENVIS, Sikkim.

An awareness rally to sensitize local tourism stakeholders, shopkeepers and hoteliers was also conducted.

The Forest Department, in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, as a part of World Environment Day 2018 had kicked off the riverfront cleaning drive along Rani Khola and its adjoining streams on 15 May.

The cleanliness drive is scheduled to continue till World Environment Day, 05 June.
