SFA mourns demise of former footballer

Gangtok, 24 May:

A condolence meeting was held at Football House in Gangtok today to mourn the demise of former footballer Ganesh Kumar Subba who died in a Siliguri nursing home on 23 May after prolonged illness, a press release from SFA informs. He was 72 years old.

Late Ganesh Kumar Subba had represented Sikkimese clubs like Kumar Sporting Club and Water Babies Club in various tournaments during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

During his tenure as bureaucrat he held the post of Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary to Sikkim Government till 2006 and retired as Chief Election Commissioner in 2011.

SFA members present in the condolence meeting observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

The funeral service will be held at Tadong Church on 25 May, it is informed.
