10th day of riverfront cleanliness drive cleans up Bakthang Falls


Gangtok, 25 May:

In continuation of its riverfront cleaning drive, the Forest Department today cleaned Bakthang Falls premises.

The tenth day of the cleanup drive was coordinated by Divisional Forest Officer [Social Forestry] and team and was participated by Bojoghari Senior Secondary School’s Eco Club, a press release informs.

The cleanup drive was supported by ENVIS, Sikkim.

An awareness rally to sensitize local tourism stakeholders, shopkeepers, taxi drivers and tourist at the Bakthang Falls premises was also conducted.

Dustbins were also handed over to the local tourism stakeholders.

The Forest Department and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, have been carrying out extensive riverfront cleanliness drives along Rani Khola and its adjoining streams since 15 May as a part of the activities leading up to World Environment Day, the release informs.
