Gangtok, 25 May [IPR]: Social Justice, Empowerment and Welfare Department conducted a meeting with the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, Dolly Chakrobatty and Director, National Institute of Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, Dr Himanshu Das at Sikkim State Cooperative Union [SICUN] in Assam Lingzey today.
The main aim of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of a Composite Regional Centre [CRC] at Assam Lingzey for the welfare and benefit of persons with disabilities in the State.
The meeting was chaired by Minister for Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department, Tulsi Devi Rai, and was also attended by area MLA, BB Rai, SICUN chairman, Ganesh Rai, Special Secretary [SJE&WD], Dhan Jyoti Mukhia, Additional Secretary [SJE&WD], K.B Pradhan and department officials.
A presentation regarding the vision and concepts of the CRC was made by the architect of the CRC project. The presentation also highlighted the plans and design of the CRC.
The presentation was followed by a briefing on the CRC schemes with suggestive ideas for implementation of the scheme by the visiting officers.
The officials also visited the CRC site.
Ms Chakrobatty suggested the Minister to establish a temporary CRC in the SICUN campus until the establishment of the permanent campus.
