‘Himalayan Cleanup and Beat Plastic Pollution’ organized across Sikkim.Himalayan Cleanup programme h

Various educational institutes and Non Governmental Organizations organized ‘Himalayan Cleanup and Beat Plastic Pollution’ programme at different areas in the State today.

Mamring’s National Service Scheme [NSS] unit, Sikkim Against Addiction Towards Healthy India [SAATHI] club and Eco Club of Mamring School jointly organized the programme by conducting a series of events including speeches, quiz competition, awareness rally and cleanliness drive stressing on the importance of waste management.

The cleanliness drive was conducted as per the guidelines given by ENVIS, Sikkim for World Environment Day programme on 05 June.

Rekape Primary School in South Sikkim and the local panchayats also organised a cleaning campaign under the ‘Himalayan Cleanup and Beat Plastic Pollution’ initiative. Plastic bottles and reusable items collected from the cleanup campaign were kept for future use.

Likewise, residents and panchayats of Chalamthang, South Sikkim conducted a cleanup drive under the ‘Himalaya Cleanup and Beat Plastic Pollution’ initiative.

In Gyalshing, the Block Administrative Centre (BAC) organised a massive cleanliness drive at Kyongsha, Bhanu Salig, Legship-Gyalshing highway, Rabdentse Bird Sanctuary and Pelling School Ground under the initiative.

Collecting of waste, segregation, and analysis of the waste collected, volume analysis, brand audit, disposing recyclable waste to scrap dealers and finally disposing of the ultimate discards was exercised today by the officials.

Himalayan Cleanup programme was held across the North District today in various towns, schools and villages.

District Collector[North] launched the programme from the District Administration Centre premises in the presence of brand ambassadors, Nirmal Chettri and Kunzang Lachungpa.

The District Collector stated that a collective and joint effort was required from all the stakeholders in the district right from officials, panchayats, students, teachers and public to make the programme successful.

Brand ambassadors, footballers Nirmal Chettri and Kunzang Lachungpa were also felicitated on the occasion.

Mangan Nagar Panchayat, Police Department, private schools and volunteers participated in a cleanup drive of the North District headquarter.
