CM inaugurates Court of Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate at Jorethang
Jorethang, 26 May [IPR]: Chief Minister PawanChamling attended the inaugural ceremony of Court of Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate at Jorethang sub-division today.
MrChamling was accompanied by Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim, Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri and Judge, High Court of Sikkim, Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan.
Addressing the gathering, MrChamling declared that Jorethang is the first sub-division under South District to have a court building for judiciary dealings which will indeed be a great asset for the people of Jorethang as well as the neighboring areas.
Terming the inaugural session as a momentous occasion, the CM spelled out the brief history of the Indian Judiciary System whereby he stated that the judicial system administers a common law system of legal jurisdiction, in which customs, precedents and legislation, all codify the law of the land.
Further, the CM stated that the State Government has been able to create more judicial infrastructure for making judicial redressal system accessible and affordable for the public of the state under the guidance of the Chief Justice. He also spoke in brief about the history of judiciary system established in Sikkim after 1975.
He said that the state government has always given due importance to facilitate justice delivery system to the public through setting up of courts of various nature. He then emphasized how the Court of Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate at Jorethang will henceforth deliver speedy hearing and quick disposal of all civil and criminal cases of the sub-division as well as the adjoining State of West Bengal.
Among the announcements made by the CM on the occasion was the establishment of two more sub-divisional courts at Pakyong and Ravanglain days to come.
The programme was also addressed by Chief Justice High Court of Sikkim, Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri where he spoke about how the Constitution of India establishes a single integrated judicial system for the whole country. He also explained how the Supreme Court of India is the highest court of the country and how it controls and runs the judicial administration of India. In addition, he also determined the importance of judicial review in the Indian Judicial System which he indicated protects the fundamental rights of citizens, upholds the principle of the supremacy of the constitution and also maintains federal equilibrium.
The programme also saw the presence of Minister Law, Legislative & Parliamentary Affairs Department, RB Subba and Area MLA cum HealthMinister, AK Ghatani alongside department officials of South District and Jorethang sub-division, members of the Bar Association, para legal volunteers, NayabazarJorethang Municipal Corporation members and panchayats of Zoom Salghari constituency, school heads and various school representatives.
