Students of 16 schools sensitized on plastic waste

To reinforce the environmental hazard of single use plastics, Office of the ADC (Pakyong), BAC (Pakyong) and BAC (Parakha) organized a unique challenge as a part of the Himalayan Clean Up initiative where students of 16 schools falling under these two areas participated and competed in the day long practical awareness and clean up engagement, a press release informs.
School prefects of these schools were taken to the landfill at Martam where they saw the waste and plastic generated from the nearby towns and the capital city Gangtok. The students then presented their ideas on solutions to plastic waste and reinforced their commitment to the cause of keeping their schools and surroundings plastic free.
Speaking about the program, ADC (Development) Pakyong, Urvashi Poudyal stated that the mission was to give a firsthand experience of the landfill to the students so that they could see the reality of our waste and also strategize practical solutions for the future.
Speaking after the presentation of ideas by students of various schools, chief guest, SDM, Pakyong, Tenzing Denzongpa congratulated the students for their efforts and encouraged everyone to further contribute towards the cleanliness of Pakyong and its surroundings and also the rest of the state.
The schools that participated were Namceybong SSS, Tarethang SS, Pacheykhani SSS, Pachey SSS, Barapathing SS, St.Xavier’s School, Dikling SSS, Aho Kisan SS, Aho Senti SS, Padamchey SS, Amba SS, Rorthang SSS, Machong SSS, Linkey SS, Mamring SS, Pushpanjali SS.
The program was also attended by BDO, Pakyong, Chiran Rizal BDO, Parakha, Dichenla Bhutia and PI, Pakyong, Sunil Pradhan among other guests.
