Philatelic & numismatic exhibition “ALPINE 2018” from 01 Jun in Darj

Alpine Philatelic and Numismatic Society [APNS] is all set to organize a two-day philatelic and numismatic exhibition titled “ALPINE - 2018” at Hayden Hall in Darjeeling on 01-02 Jun, informs a press release issued by APNS president, Sushil Karthak.

The philatelic exhibition which is being held in Darjeeling after four years has also invited members of Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatic Society [SPNS] to showcase their collections with Ganesh Pradhan [SPNS president] and Shital Pradhan [SPNS secretary] representing Sikkim.

More than 10,000 stamps will be on display that includes ‘Black Penny’- world’s first postage stamp, Pre - Independence British Era stamps, historic postal cancellation of Darjeeling and its Hills dating back to 1894, Coins from Sikkim, Indian Princely State Coins, Rare Bank Notes and Coins, World-Wide Colourful Polymer Notes and many more, the release adds.

A five-frame philatelic exhibit “Elements of Music” by Vivek Yonzone [Secretary, APNS] that won a Silver Medal at Indian National Philatelic Exhibition held in Mumbai last Dec will be the main highlight of the event. The two-day event will also have Sit and Draw Competition along with Letter Writing Competition for students of different schools from Darjeeling.

It may be mentioned here, APNS was formed on 25 Feb, 2018 to promote philately and numismatic among all age of life in the Darjeeling Hills. The society will be organizing more workshops on philately and numismatic at different schools.

The society has invited people interested in philately and numismatic to join the society. The membership registration forms will be available during the event at Hayden Hall. The event will also have booths for dealers from whom people can buy philatelic and numismatic materials, informs the press release.
