Marathon Man of Sikkim, Amar Subba, came in tenth in the 12-Hour [Night] Stadium Run held on 26-27 May at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad. He covered a distance of 87.2 KMs in 12 hours. With this, he has also qualified for the upcoming 24 Hour Stadium Challenge to be held on 16-17 June at Mumbai in Maharashtra.
The Gachibowli event was organised by Bangalore-based Non-Stop Entertainment Business [NEB] Sports and was competed in by 37 male and 07 female ultra runners from different parts of the country.
Earlier, Amar Subba had stood on 5th position in the 12-Hour Stadium Run at Mumbai in 2015, covering a distance of 95.6 KMs in 12 hours. He had participated in a 12 Hour Stadium Run for the first time at Bangalore in 2014 when he had covered a distance of 96 KMs and stood on the third position. Then, he stood on the 5th position in another 12 Hour Stadium Run at Mumbai in 2015 covering a distance of 95.6 KMs.
Addressing a press conference here today, the 50-year-old Mr Subba expressed happiness on finishing the run in the top-10.
“Although I have not able to break my record of 96 KMs in 12 hours this time, I am satisfied with my performance in the event among the best ultra runners of the country. This was another learning experience for me to do better in upcoming competitions,” he shared.
He covered 218 rounds of a 400 meter track in 12 hours to cover the distance of 87.2 KMs.
“I am happy that I have qualified for the upcoming 24 Hour Stadium Challenge to be held on 16 and 17 June at Mumbai in Maharashtra. I will prepare hard and give my best to in this competition to keep the name of Sikkim on the top,” Mr Subba said.
He also thanked all his supporters and well-wishers for their continuous support.
