A police mini-bus carrying 36 policemen overturned at a sharp turning in 3rd Mile, Kalimpong while returning from Kalimpong to Uttar Dinajpur at around 2 pm today. 22 of the personnel on board were injured in the mishap.
Fourteen of them, along with the driver, were brought to Kalimpong District Hospital while eight others, who were more grievously injured, were immediately taken to Siliguri Hospital.
Even among the 14 injured policemen brought here, Rakesh Ghosh [constable] is severely injured [internally] and has been referred to Siliguri Hospital along with the driver and two other policemen who are in a critical state, informed hospital sources.
The personnel were returning from Chief Minister’s Duty assigned to them for the last three days in Kalimpong.
“Most of them have injuries on their backs and have cuts in the faces while some of them have suffered fractures,” said one of the locals.
Superintendent of Police, Kalimpong, Dhurvajyoti De, informed about eight policemen have been shifted to Siliguri and the case is under investigation.
