SJE&WD hands over scholarship assistance

Gangtok, 04 Jun [IPR]: To ensure proper education of children living in Child Care Units, Orphanages/Semi Orphanage Homes, who are financially underprivileged or who have lost their parents, the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment & Welfare, handed over cheques to them as scholarship assistance.

Social Welfare Minister, Tulshi Devi Rai, handed over cheques of Rs 24,000 each to the beneficiaries at a function held at the Department’s conference hall in Gangtok today.

The department has selected 37 children from South district under Integrated Child Protection Scheme [ICPS] for scholarship assistance wherein each child will get scholarship assistance of Rs 24,000 annually for three years, it is informed.

The Minister also interacted with the children and urged them aim high when it comes to deciding their future careers.

One of the beneficiaries from Chisopani in South Sikkim, Pramila Limboo, expressed her happiness and thanked the department for extending financial support for her studies.

She said that this scholarship assistance will help her further studies and motivate her towards building a life for herself.

Additional Secretary, KB Pradhan, Additional Secretary cum Director, ICPS, Social Welfare Department, Dushyant Pariyaar, and other officials were also present in the function.
