SKM reiterates criticism of State’s pay revision
Gangtok, 05 Jun:
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has once again alleged that the Sikkim Democratic Front-led State Government has been working against the interest of government employees of Sikkim.
The party has demanded that the pay revision should be put into effect from 01 January 2016 to provide full benefits to the government employees of Sikkim and arrears should be provided in one go and not in installments. The Govt has accepted the recommendation of the 5th Pay Commission that the pay revision be notionally accepted wef from 01 Jan 2016 by effective only from 01 Jan 2017 onwards.
On the same, the party asserted that if the SDF government cannot fulfill these demands then it should resign from office on moral grounds.
Addressing a press conference here today, SKM acting president, Kunga Nima Lepcha, stated that instead of constituting a committee for pay revision, the State Government should directly implement the 07th pay commission of the Centre for the benefit of local government employees.
He added that as the decision of the government to implement the 05th pay commission from 01 January 2017 instead of 01 January 2016 would cause great loss of one year in arrears to government employees.
He contended that the pay commission was not in the interest of local employees.
While mentioning that the objective of pay revision to provide relief to employees by provided pay at par the existing price of commodities, Mr Lepcha questioned the logic behind this pay revision.
SKM senior vice-president, TN Dhakal, mentioned that the Chief Minister had earlier announced that the State would always follow the process of the Centre in pay revision. On the same, he stressed that the State should implement the revision made by the Centre.
“Pay revision should be made to support government employees but the government has been cheating the people of Sikkim. This is the total suppression of the government employees of Sikkim,” he alleged.
SKM advisory committee member, SK Rai, stated that there were many government employees who retired in 2016 so these employees will now be deprived of their benefits due to the decision of the government to implement the pay revision only from 01 January 2017.
SKM vice-president [ex-servicemen front], Kado Tshering Bhutia informed that the government has also decreased all allowances of the government employees from the existing rate. He alleged that the intention of the government was not sincere towards the government employees as on one hand it has increased the salaries but has been covering it by decreasing allowances.
Meanwhile, vice-president [frontal organisation], Nakul Das Rai, alleged that some schools in and around Saramsa Garden were shut down to bring students and teachers to attend the CM’s programme today at Saramsa Garden. He informed that Changay Senti secondary school and Kishan secondary school were shut down and Assam Lingzey SSS and Namcheybong SSS were also partially closed as teachers and students from these schools were brought to attend the CM programme.
While talking to a senior officer of HRDD, he informed that the department had not issued any such circular for these schools, Mr Rai informed.
He criticized the State Government for involving students in the programme.
The party has demanded explanations from the school principals and headmaster regarding the shutdown.
