The East District Administration has imposed Section 144 around the Sikkim Legislative Assembly for sitting of the House which begins from 08 Jun.
A press release informs that the order is issued to ensure smooth proceedings inside the Assembly and to maintain the sanctity and decorum of the House and to ensure maintenance of law and order in the vicinity of Sikkim Legislative Assembly complex.
The order will come into force from 9 a.m. on 08 Jun and will remain in force till the end of sitting unless withdrawn earlier.
Section 144 Cr. PC, 1973 prohibits people from assembling in groups outside the Assembly complex in order to prevent any untoward incident which is likely to disrupt or adversely affect the sanctity and decorum of the Assembly and may further lead to disturbance to the public peace and tranquility.
It also prohibits any assembly of five or more persons sloganeering, shouting, rioting, protesting, staging a dharna or demonstration, picketing, postering, wall writing or carrying out any other activity whatsoever it may be, which may cause disturbance to the public peace and tranquility in the area falling within 300 meters radius from the outer boundary of the Assembly Secretariat.
The order, however, will not be applicable to law enforcing agencies namely Magistrates, Police personnel, Army, CRPF, Para Military Forces and any other such persons who are lawfully engaged in maintaining law and order.
