Gangtok, 06 Jun:
Denzong Sherpa Association [DSA] has expressed disappointment over the statement made by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling during his Jan Sampark Abhiyan programme at Saramsa Garden on 05 Jun wherein Mr Chamling, they allege, alienated Sherpa community of Sikkim from land right protection.
A press release issued by DSA general secretary, Dhendup Sherpa mentions that after the notice of National Commission of Scheduled Tribes to the State Government in 2017, Mr Chamling had openly said that he will not allow the protection of Sherpa land under Revenue Order No. 1 even if the Centre grants the demand placed by Sherpas of Sikkim.
The recent SDF legislators meet’s decision to stop fielding Sherpa candidates from Bhutia-Lepcha constituency and now CM’s statement about the land protection of all the communities barring the Sherpa community of Sikkim has added insult to their injury, the release states.
“It is now evident that the demand of land protection of Sherpas under Revenue Order No. 1 is side-lined by Chamling Government. Therefore, Sherpa of Sikkim will now decide its social and political future on its own,” adds the DSA release.
The Sherpa Association has appealed to all the Sherpa organisations and Kiduks to get ready to stand for their constitutional rights as guaranteed by Article 371F of the Constitution of India.
