Ventilated polyhouse inaugurated at Soureni

AICRP on PET, College of Agricultural and Post Harvest Technology (CAU), Ranipool, has constructed a ventilated polyhouse at the field of farmer Pratap Thatal of Soureni, Assam Lingzey, East Sikkim. The ventilated polyhouse was inaugurated by MLA, Bek Bahadur Rai in the presence of Dr. RK Singh, Project Coordinator, AICRP on PET, Ludhiana, Punjab and Dean, CAEPHT, Prof. PP Dabral, informs a press release.
Dr. Awani Kumar Singh, Principal Scientist from IARI, New Delhi addressed the farmers and illustrated the various techniques suitable for the organic cultivation of vegetables in the polyhouse. Dr. RK Singh, Project Coordinator explained the use of plastics in agriculture for increasing the production and productivity in Sikkim.
Dean, CAEPHT, Prof. PP Dabral, mentioned that the college is working on skill development programmes for the construction of polyhouse technology, solar operated equipments & farm machines. MLA BB Rai addressed the farmers and scientists and requested to provide effective technology and guidance for the organic growers of the Sikkim.
Dr. Deepak Jhajharia also mentioned that PET, Gangtok Center is constructing low cost ventilated polyhouse in different parts of Sikkim for organic vegetable cultivation.
Vote of thanks was extended by Laxuman Sharma, progressive organic farmer of Soureni, Assam Lingzey. Panchayat President, Ganesh Chettri and Ward Panchayat, Sukmaya Bishwakarma, Prof. Mahendra Singh Seveda, Dr. GT Patle and Dr. Kh. Lily Devi were also present on the occasion.
