DC West announces Rs 1 lakh aid for clearing jhoras

Gyalshing, 09 Jun [IPR]:The office of the District Administration Centre, West Sikkim, carried out an inspection programmeled by District Collector, West, Dr AB Karki, accompanied by Sub Divisional Magistrate, Gyalshing, TusharNikhare, Superintendent of Police, West, TenzingLodenLepcha, Sub Divisional Police Officer, West, Manish K Verma, Chief Medical Officer, Gyalshing District Hospital, ThinlayWongyal, and other officials of Public Health Engineering, Animal Husbandry andGyalshingMunicipal Council.

DrKarkiand his team inspected hotels, restaurants, meat shops, bakeries and other similar establishments where he interacted with the employees, hawkers and owners.

The DC, giving strict instructions to hawkers, reminded that irregularity of license renewal, sub-letting of shops without proper agreements, slackness in maintenance of hygiene or medical fitness of workers and improper verifications will not be tolerated.

He directed the GMC officials to verify that shops were selling only commodities specified in their respective shops licenses. He further asked the CMO to check drinking water samples from local eateries on regular basis and take immediate action if the samples were found unfit for human consumption.

The DC also announced an aid of RsOne lakh to the GMC for the clearing and maintenance of jhorasin the town area.

Highlighting the responsibility of the vendors towards cleanliness in their surroundings, DrKarki informed the vendors and owners of the Gyalshingmarket area that noncompliance of the directions of District Administration will attract cancellation of licenses in the future.

He also mentioned that similar inspections will be carried out in the sub-divisions of West District for the convenience and safety of the public.

Similarly, the SP-West directed his personnel to instruct the sellers that sale of loose cigarettes, especially to minors,was an offence.

He further urged them to check if surveillance cameras in the Market area were properly installed.

He also asked the authorities to maintain records of workers in their establishments and immediately conduct tenant verification.
