State Govt preps for International Yoga Day
Gangtok, 12 Jun [IPR]: International Yoga Day 2018 will be celebrated here at Paljor Stadium on 21 June in cooperation and coordination of various departments of the State Government and stakeholders.
In this connection, Chief Secretary AK Shrivastava, chaired a high level coordination meeting to assess the preparedness here at the conference hall of Chief Secretary’s Office today.
The meeting was called by the AYUSH wing of Health Department which is the Nodal Department and was convened under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, SC Gupta, Secretaries from Departments of Health, Transport, Sports & Youth Affaits, Commissioner from Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Director from Department of Information and Public Relations, Additional District Magistrate and senior officials from various line departments.
The meeting was held to discuss the various works which are to be carried out by the line departments to accomplish a grand State level function of International Yoga Day.
All departments including HC, HS & FW, Youth and Sports, Information and Public Relations, Human Resource Development Department, Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Sikkim Police, ITBP, IRB and others present gave their assurances of their assigned duties and stated that they will leave no stone unturned in making Yoga Day a successful event.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary called upon all the Heads of Departments and officials from various other agencies to work in proper coordination and cooperation to deliver the best results.
He reiterated that all the preparations have to be done on a war footing. He took detailed stock of the roles and responsibilities of each department and directed the officers from the line departments to put their best foot forward to ensure success of the programme.
Earlier, Secretary, Health Department briefed the meeting about the programme for the upcoming event and informed that the Common Yoga Protocol received from the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India will be followed.
It was informed in the meeting today that around 2000 participants from NCC, NSS, SSB, ITBP and students from various Schools and Colleges/Universities will take part in the event.
Discussing on the various inputs placed by senior officials during the meeting, Health Secretary extended his gratitude towards all departments and stakeholders for extending all possible help.
It was decided in the meeting that the rehearsal for the event will be held on 19 June at Paljor Stadium.
