Gangtok, 15 Jun:
Minister for Building & Housing Department cum Gnathang Machong MLA, DT Lepcha, today inaugurated three important offices namely the office of Assistant Regional Transport Officer, State Bank of Sikkim revenue collection counter and office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner at the Sub Divisional Magistrate complex in Pakyong, East Sikkim.
The office of Assistant Transport Officer will be issuing licenses and documents related to motor vehicles for the people of Pakyong sub division and surrounding areas.
Speaking to the media, Mr Lepcha said it was a historic day for the people of Pakyong sub division with the opening of these important offices in Pakyong.
He added that these offices will serve the people of five constituencies [Gnathang-Machong, Chujachen, West Pendam, Namcheybong and Rhenock], and three subdivisions [Pakyong, Rongli and half of Rangpo].
“People from these constituencies will now be spared the trouble of travelling all the way to Gangtok through heavy traffic of the capital for various official purposes. And I thank Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for providing these facilities which will be hugely benefit the local people,” said Mr Lepcha.
He further added, “The CM had assured before the Assembly elections in 2014 to establish an East DC office in Pakyong with Gangtok as its headquarter. It, however, could not be done due to lack of proper infrastructure. Since there is sufficient space at the Pakyong SDM complex, it might as well be able to function as an East DC office. We are hopeful that the CM will announce it when he comes to address the public here on 20 Jun as part of his 32-day Jan Sampark Abhiyaan.”
The function had the presence of MLA Rhenock Constituency, Hemendra Adhikari, Chairperson, Commerce and Industries, Choppel Dzangpo Bhutia, Secretary, Transport Department, SBS Bhaduria, Managing Director, SBS, Hem K Chettri, other officials, Panchayats and the general public.
On the occasion, the Minister also handed over one Swatch Bharat Mission garbage collection vehicle to Pachey Samsing GPU.
