Dzongu MLA and North DC visit Sakyong & Pentong villages

Deputy Speaker SLA cum MLA Dzongu, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, along with the North District Administration led by District Collector North, Karma R Bonpo, Chairperson, SNT Division, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, and other district officials from line departments visited the remote villages of Sakyong and Pentong in Upper Dzongu, North Sikkim on 14-15 Jun.

It may be mentioned here, Sakyong and Pentong are located on either side of Dzongu and are the last villages with human habitation.

The entourage met the people of Sakyong-Pentong Gram Panchayat Unit and interacted with them to learn about their grievances.

The SLA Deputy Speaker held an interaction with the public of Bey Ward, which falls on the way to Pentong, wherein the Ward Panchayat presented the demand letter for road construction and recruitment of ASHA for the Ward.

At Pentong village, a meeting was held with the public and Panchayat where the Ward Panchayat placed demands regarding the recruitment of ward boy at Pentong Primary Health Centre among other demands.

Likewise, on 15 Jun, a meeting was held with the public and Panchayat of Sakyong village.

Panchayat president, Phurmit Lepcha, highlighted the demands pertaining to construction of a waiting shed, guest house and eco-friendly footpath along with provision of network connectivity and repair of ropeway.

She further added that irregular electricity supply is a major problem in the area and urged that the villagers should be exempted from paying the electricity bill. She also informed that reaching essential commodities to their village is a big challenge as the people of Sakyong have to pay Rs 1500 as head load to reach one bag of cement to their village.

The DC North assured to fulfill the genuine demands placed by the public of the GPU in a phase wise manner while taking up immediate restoration works through NC fund. He also stressed on increasing the enrollment at Pentong School. The network connectivity issue will be solved through Bharat net which is under BSNL, he added.

The DC informed that active youth of the villages will be trained on disaster management in case of emergencies and assured to repair the ropeway within one month for the convenience of the people. He further urged people to complete the under construction CMRHM houses as early as possible.
