Department of Water Security and Public Health Engineering today organized a mass plantation drive with the theme ‘Go Green, Save Water, Save Life, Organic Sikkim’ as part of Paryavaran Mahotsav 2018 here at Namchi water supply system premises at Dew Damthang in South Sikkim.
The drive was led by Assistant Engineer [PHE], Tara Rai, along with Namchi Municipal Corporation Chairperson, Udai Chandra Rai and vice-president, Dikila Bhutia councilors and the officers from the department.
More than 200 saplings of rhododendron were planted by the officers and PHE Department staff during the drive.
Addressing the occasion, NMC chairperson, Udai Chandra Rai appreciated the initiative of the Department to celebrate the occasion which he said is the key programme of the State Government to protect and conserve environment.
He also said that Paryavaran Mahotsav has been observed in a successful and efficient manner with enthusiastic and active participation from government employees, officials, NGOs, school children, panchayats and the civil society in South District.
He also informed about several programmes of the State Government for the protection and conservation of environment and urged the participants to plant maximum trees during the occasion.
