Sikkim to host first Bhutan Film Festival
Gangtok, 20 Jun [IPR]:
A two-day film festival titled “Bhutan Film Festival” will be held from 23-24 Jun in Gangtok as part of the celebration commemorating the golden jubilee of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India.
A press conference was held in this regard at the mini conference hall of the Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department at Manan Kendra today. The conference was chaired by Secretary, Ambika Pradhan, Special Secretary, Vidya Subba, Additional Director, ST Gyatso, and other officials.
Also present were Director of Department of Information & Media, Ministry of Information and Communications, Thimpu, Rinchen Dorji and president of Film Association of Bhutan, Karma Tshering.
Secretary, Ms Pradhan, stated that it was an honor for the State to be hosting the first ever Bhutan Film Festival and added that this will strengthen the bond between the two countries while boosting tourism and business exchanges between the two nations. She also extended her assurances that the CA&H Department will be extending all possible support towards the success of the film festival.
President of Film Association of Bhutan, Mr Tshering, expressed his gratitude to the State for helping make the event a reality and expressed positivity on its success. He said that it will greatly promote and encourage ties between the two nations and extended invitation to all to be a part of the festival.
It may be mentioned here, the event is being organized by the Ministry of Information & Communications, Royal Government of Bhutan in collaboration with the Film Association of Bhutan with facilitation support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan and the CA&H Department, Government of Sikkim.
Six popular Bhutanese films will be screened at the auditorium of the CA&H Department and Hotel Rendezvous, Gangtok. The film screenings will be followed by panel discussions with film professionals, producers and directors. The film festival intends to bring together citizens of the two countries, strengthen the friendly relationship and showcase Bhutan’s efforts towards the preservation and promotion of distinctive culture, tradition and language. It also aims to promote tourism and establish collaboration to develop the film industry.
Organized for the first time, the “Bhutan Film Festival” in Sikkim will mark the commencement of Bhutanese Film Festivals abroad, it is informed.
