First ever Bhutanese Film Festival commences at Manan Kendra
Gangtok, 23 Jun [IPR]:In commemoration of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India, the first ever Bhutanese Film Festival was celebrated at Manan Kendra Auditorium in Gangtok today.
Speaker, SLA, KN Rai, attended the event as chief guest accompanied by Cultural Affairs Minister, GM Gurung, as guest of honour.
Chief guest MrRai, in his address, said that the film festival is a historical event as Sikkim is the first State to host the film festival of Bhutan. He talked about the similarities between Sikkim and Bhutan which is based on religion and culture. He hoped for a stronger relationship between the two countries after the Green Field Airport is operational and also briefed the crowd about the achievements of Sikkim which included organic mission, environmental protection and other schemes envisioned by the state government.
Secretary, Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department,AmbikaPradhan, said that it was an honour to have the State chosen to host the 1st Bhutanese Film Festival. She added that the purpose of the film festival is to market Bhutanese films and to promote tourism and local economy. She appreciated the hosting agencies and expressed her gratitude towards Director of Department of Information & Media, Ministry of Information and Communications,Thimpu, RinchenDorji, and other Bhutanese counterparts.
Consul General of Bhutan, Kolkata,ThinleyWangchuk, said that he was honoured to represent the Government of Bhutan and said that Sikkim and Bhutan always had a strong bond due to regular visits and exchanges.
He added that the celebration promotes long term relation between the two nations and further mentioned that selecting Sikkim to host the event will futher build the relationship, exchanges of culture and tradition and also promote film locations and tourism.
The event also had the presence of Chief Secretary, AK Shrivastava, officials of various other departments, college students, filmmakers, singers and the local gentry.
It may be mentioned here, the two-dayevent is being organized by the Ministry of Information & Communications, Royal Government of Bhutan in collaboration with the Film Association of Bhutan with facilitation support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan and the CA&H Department, Government of Sikkim.
