Olympic Day Run organized to promote Olympic spirit

Sikkim Olympic Association [SOA] with the support of Sports & Youth Affairs Department organized Olympic Day Run2018 in Gangtok today to commemorate Olympic Day as per the Olympic Charter to promote its universal character and encourage worldwide participation, a press release informs.
The run that flagged off from MGMargand covered White Hall andKazi Road and ended at Titanic Park.
The event was attended by Gangtok MLA, PintsoChopelLepcha, as chief guest along with Mayor, Gangtok Municipal Council, Shakti Singh Choudhury, and Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, SD Dhakal, as guests of honour.
Two-hundred runners including school students, sportspersons, senior citizens,and representatives from different clubs and associations affiliated to SOA from all the districts of the State participated in the event.
In the Sub Junior category for boys & girls, Arnab Sharma, SheyaRai and ChutinBhutia bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.
In the men’s category, the first position was secured by Ram B Neopany with Kamal Mangar and Hem B Neopany taking the second and third positions respectively.
Likewise, Chandrakala Sharma, RemikaRai and PurnimaTamang took the first, second and third positions respectively in the women’s category.
In the seniors’ category, AnupBaniya, TsewangBhutia and YogeshGurung secured the first, second and third positions respectively. 75-year-old senior citizen, NimsangLhamu [Pradhan], was awarded with consolation prize for participating in the run.
The winners of the Olympic Run were awarded with prizes by the chief guest.
President, SOA, BKRoka,has extended gratitude to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for his vision for development of sports in the State and to various departments and associations for their support in conducting the event successfully.
