Organic Mission attracting national and international visitors: AgriSecy

Agriculture & Horticulture Department Secretary, KhorloBhutia, today said that more than 1058 individuals and organisations have already visited Sikkim this year to learn about the Sikkim Organic Mission. Organisations and individuals from different parts of the Country and abroad have continuously been coming to Sikkim to learn about the Sikkim Organic Mission, he added.
Addressing a press conference here today, MrBhutia informed that these visitors include a team led by Bihar Agriculture Minister, a delegation from Nepal led by Agriculture Department Secretary, Government of Nepal and six MLAs from Himachal Pradesh recently visited Sikkim to learn about Sikkim Organic Mission.
He informed that even scholars from the outside have been coming to Sikkim to learn about organic farming. Sikkim Organic Mission has become popular in different States of India and other countries and want to adopt organic farming in their respective places, he said.
However, the Secretary stated that despite the success and popularity of the mission some people are trying to spread misinformation. One-sided, distorted and alarmist information on the organic mission is being spread, he added.
He urged the people and organisations to do a thorough investigation and to contact the department to get the correct facts and figures before publishing any article or report.
The Secretary also informed that Horticulture Department Director, Dr DK Bhandari has been appointed as the official spokesperson of the department and Sikkim Organic Mission.
