New party Sikkim United Front launched


Gangtok, 25 Jun:

A new political party, Sikkim United Front, was launched today in a function held at Ranipool in East Sikkim.

The new political outfit has Narendra Adhikari as its president along with Peter Tamang, Ashish Rai, Mani Chettri, Kumar Karnal, Kunga Tashi Lepcha, Kumari Limbu as working presidents and Ramesh Khanal as its general secretary.

While speaking at the programme, president, Mr Adhikari, said that it was necessary to form a political party based on principles in the State.

He also held that unification of Sikkimese society and to install a sense of patriotism among all sections of Sikkimese population is one of the party’s prime agenda.

Adding further he said that a dearth of proper opposition and lack of sincere leaders has been felt in the State which is why even after anti-incumbency factor, the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front has been winning elections.

He also said that the party will run for 2019 general elections.

Party member, Ashish Rai, stated that due to vested interests of the present dispensation, the youth have not received a platform and the party aims to work for the welfare of all.

The programme had the presence of former Minister, Sonam Tshering Bhutia, as chief guest and Delay Namgyal Kazi of SNPP as the guest of honour along with other opposition figures like MK Subba, Padam Bahadur Chettri, Radha Pandey, Narmada Sharma, Krishna Adhikari and GS Khanal as other guests.

It is informed that the party was registered in April this year.
